First half of May 2020 Astrology Report

The first half of May 2020 is astrologically action-packed. The first major shift we see is the North Node moving from Cancer into Gemini on May 5, where it stays until January 18, 2022. Since the nodes are always retrograde, they move backward through the signs. The North Node shows us where our direction lies, so we know where to focus. It’s been at the last degree of Cancer, which is called the critical degree, the point where we are tested to see that we have gained mastery with that sign.
With Cancer, the duality of energy signifies safety, home, and nurturing, but it can also be overbearing, possessive, and fearful. Now that the lessons of the critical degree are being amplified during the time of quarantine, can we find a way to truly enjoy this time at home? Can we release that cagey, fearful energy?
We have Saturn in Aquarius before it retrogrades to Capricorn again, so it is more difficult for us to find that safety and security. Saturn in Aquarius is redefining world structures, individuality, and equality, creating upheaval through the world.
The South Node has been in Capricorn during the heaviest concentration of Capricorn in the last 700 years. The South Node represents the past or even past lives, and the tools at our disposal, but it’s not where we need to go. We need to move in the opposite direction for soul’s growth.
With the North Node moving to Gemini, this can bring new ways of thinking, adaptability, and communication. Once it forms a trine aspect to Saturn in Aquarius much later into its transit through Gemini, it could bring advances and solutions in technology that will help the whole world.
The South Node is opposite the North Node, so it is now moving into Sagittarius. It may mean letting go of old dogmatic beliefs. Look at whether your old spiritual practices serving you? Is there something new you can bring in? Once we move forward, travel will look different, but there should be positive changes as well.
The star of the show now is the Scorpio Full Supermoon on May 7 at 3:45 am PST at 17 degrees. It may be the most intense full moon of the year for many people. Scorpio is the water sign with a double rulership by Pluto and Mars, making it more like boiling water. Mars is fiery, and Pluto can bring destruction, transformation, or rebirth. This Full Moon has the potential to bring out volatile emotions, but it can also bring forth deep emotional strength with the ability to survive the most challenging experiences.
People with planets in the second decan (10-20 degrees) of the fixed signs (Scorpio, Leo, Taurus, Aquarius) will feel this the most. This Full Moon in Scorpio will light up the dark night, as well as our inner darkness, the areas where no other signs dare to tread. It is amplifying emotions that have been suppressed, buried, or ignored, revealing inner truth and outer truth: things we did not know. With the Full Moon in Scorpio and the Sun in Taurus, this axis highlights intimacy, trust, truth—wonderful things that enhance our life. But we’re also being confronted with our old wounds or traumas. It our choice now to choose love over fear, compassion over persecution. We can use this energy for healing, growth, spiritual evolution, and transcendent connectivity.
Saturn in Aquarius square the Taurus Sun has been challenging our ability to enjoy ourselves and unconditional happiness. We are looking for alternative ways to find contentment while the old ways are unavailable. This aspect is no longer square, so hopefully you’ve found some tools for self-care to help you overcome some of these obstacles. If you could enjoy yourself during this square, this moon will highlight those areas and come to an emotional head.
Clarity is a big theme for this full moon, which can be great or it can be overwhelming. It can reveal secrets, while hidden desires and subconscious patterns come into conscious awareness. Sometimes these are things we do not want to look at, things we’ve repressed consciously or unconsciously. Your emotions will be your clue to where you need to focus. Being intentional with your actions and emotions will bring the best outcome.
This can be like the process of the Phoenix rising from the ashes. So, embrace this challenge, and focus on what feels difficult. Look at what we have been sweeping under the rug. This Full Moon is showing us what may be troubling, but it’s also giving us the strength to take action and to deal with things after so much uncertainty. If we can be present and be humble, we can transmute our “negatives” into positives.
We have a brief time to put any plans into effect before the three major retrogrades starting on May 11. The rules of the game are changing, and it’s time to make plans. The days from May 7 to May 11 show us where to act. The Scorpio Moon gives us the potential for greater intimacy and deep satisfaction when we are compassionate instead of critical. Give yourself intentional space for reflection on a very big spectrum on a very emotional axis and prepare yourself for an emotional release.
Mars in Aquarius is creating a T-Square with the Sun, Moon, and Mercury. Mars in Aquarius wants to stir things up and may spark confrontation. Be careful of dominating any conversations or controversies that pop up. Mercury in Taurus is reminding us to soften our words and the Sun in Taurus and Moon in Scorpio and both asking us to be better listeners: to listen, process, assimilate, reflect, and then respond, without being reactive.
Mars in Aquarius wants the freedom to speak its mind, and the Moon is also highlighting the ability to receive. Scorpio rules death. Full moons are endings. This Full Moon in Scorpio in its highest form is the death of the ego. This is where we need to call out ourselves or others with bullshit, but if we do bring things up, we need to do it with tact. Our biggest opportunity for growth is through choosing love over fear, compassion over persecution. The most loving thing we can do for ourselves is to forgive others. Release the gripping, the resistance, and the negative energy.
Reflect, be mindful, and to process the energies of the Full Moon, stop the news and social media and spend time in activities that support transmutation. This could include journaling, feel the emotions and let them out, channel the energy into a creative art form, or use yoga or movement to let the energy move through you. You can do a burning ceremony, where you write what you want to let release and burn it, let it go.
Right after the Full Moon, we get a trifecta of retrogrades on May 11, 13 and 14, causing a slowing down of energies as we get time to reflect and integrate. We already had Pluto retrograding on April 25 until October, nudging us into a slow process of inner transformation as we look at our wounds and the strengths they’ve given to us. Saturn retrogrades on May 11 until the end of September, giving us an opportunity to rethink our priorities and values, and to focus on getting back on track wherever we’ve gone off course.
Venus retrogrades on May 13 to June 25 giving us a marvelous chance to reflect on our relationships to love and money, but definitely not an ideal time for making major commitments in those areas.
On May 14, Jupiter retrogrades until September 12, giving us the perfect energy to turn our focus inward, to reevaluate our spiritual lives, and to resume any studies we’ve let go.
Before May 11, we can make plans, set goals, assess resources, and strategize. It’s important to stay adaptable, as these retrogrades go back over some challenging transits we’ve already experienced.
Don’t expect too much change right away. Note that the Venus retrograde is square Neptune, which brings confusion, so use discernment when watching the news or social media. I’ll go into more depth on these retrogrades on my next video.
So, we have opportunities for massive growth now if we do our spiritual homework. If we can embrace fresh ideas, be adaptable, let go of the ego, and use tact and compassion, we can soften the effects of any karmic patterns and create positive new positive directions for ourselves.
